چکیده
Abstract Background Recent studies suggest potential roles of immune response in the pathophysiology epilepsy. Anti-seizure medications (ASMs) are known to have side effects drug eruption caused by responses. A few reports adults demonstrated disappearance seizures after an ASM episode. In this paper, we described 2 cases childhood absence epilepsy (CAE) who showed seizure ethosuximide (ESM) eruption, suggesting possibility that disappears due responses ASM. Case presentation 1 was 8-year-old girl diagnosed with CAE. She treated valproate acid (VPA) initially, and then ESM administered as additional treatment. Her epileptic disappeared 4 days initiation ESM. However, appeared week administration Even discontinuation administration, she maintains no eruption. a 5-year-old boy He VPA additionally. Drug month terminated, he maintained freedom appearance Conclusions Epileptic may been suppressed Further needed elucidate pathophysiologic on through

Ethosuximide, valproic acid, and lamotrigine in childhood absence epilepsy: initial monotherapy outcomes at 12 months.
PURPOSE Determine the optimal initial monotherapy for children with newly diagnosed childhood absence epilepsy (CAE) based on 12 months of double-blind therapy. METHODS A double-blind, randomized controlled clinical trial compared the efficacy, tolerability, and neuropsychological effects of ethosuximide, valproic acid, and lamotrigine in children with newly diagnosed CAE. Study medications w...
متن کاملSeizure clustering during drug treatment affects seizure outcome and mortality of childhood-onset epilepsy.
To provide evidence of whether seizure clustering is associated with drug resistance and increased mortality in childhood-onset epilepsy, a prospective, long-term population-based study was performed. One hundred and twenty patients who had been followed since disease onset (average age 37.0 years, SD 7.1, median 40.0, range 11-42; incident cases) were included. At the end of the follow-up peri...
متن کاملTwo epileptic syndromes, one brain: Childhood absence epilepsy and benign childhood epilepsy with centrotemporal spikes
Childhood absence epilepsy (CAE) and benign childhood epilepsy with centrotemporal spikes (BCECTS), or benign rolandic epilepsy (BRE), are the most common forms of childhood epilepsy. CAE and BCECTS are well-known and clearly defined syndromes; although they are strongly dissimilar in terms of their pathophysiology, these functional epileptic disturbances share many features such as similar age...
متن کاملSeizure frequency and social outcome in drug resistant epilepsy patients who do not undergo epilepsy surgery
Little is known about the long term prognosis of refractory epilepsy patients who do not undergo epilepsy surgery. We performed a telephone survey and chart review of patients who underwent presurgical evaluation in our Unit but did not have surgery, from 1998 until 2004. We contacted 84 patients; mean follow-up was 6.7 years. Four patients (4.7%) had died, presumably of SUDEP. Ten patients (13...
